The Health Map for Immune System

A Health Map is the navigation layer above the Topics. It shows the full path, the cross-area benefits, common mistakes, the contexts in which it applies, where experts disagree at the area level, and what is changing now.

Can multiple sclerosis be reversed through diet and lifestyle (Wahls protocol)?

Mainstream: Mainstream neurology centers disease-modifying therapy as the standard treatment for multiple sclerosis — substantially altering long-term outcomes including disability progression and relapse rates. Lifestyle interventions support but do not replace these.

Contested: Terry Wahls's personal recovery from progressive multiple sclerosis on her dietary protocol and small subsequent clinical observations have generated a substantial following. The protocol emphasizes a Mediterranean-style foundation, removing processed foods, and specific elimination categories.

What survives: The lifestyle basics within the Wahls protocol (Mediterranean-pattern eating, removing ultra-processed foods, vitamin D adequacy, regular movement) are reasonable for anyone. The protocol-specific claims should be discussed with your neurologist as potential adjuncts, not adopted as substitutes for prescribed therapy. Some patients may benefit; this does not validate replacing standard care.

The full Roadmap applies this pattern across every area-level tension. Path, Mistakes, Context, and What's changing now follow the same approach.
